  • Daughter-in-law of the Honorable Nat U. Hill, former Monroe County judge, and Margie Hill

EXPERIENCED IN THE COURTROOM

  • Monroe County Juvenile Court Referee for six years, presiding over all delinquency, child
  • neglect, paternity, guardianship and mental health commitment trials
  • Director of the Child Advocacy Clinic of the Indiana University School of Law to train law students to advocate for the best interest of high-risk children in the courtroom
  • Represented children in the courtroom, trained CASA attorneys
  • Past member of the Juvenile Benchbook Committee of the Indiana Judicial Center
  • Coordinated the Indiana Family Court Project in 22 counties, including Monroe, to be more effective and efficient in serving children and families in our courts
  • Facilitated court-community education seminar for Monroe Civil Judges 2005
  • Judge Pro Tempore for the Monroe Juvenile Court 2006
  • Currently, full-time contract consultant to the Indiana Supreme Court

KNOWLEDGEABLE IN THE LAW

  • Clinical Associate Professor of IU School of Law-Bloomington 1996-1999 and Adjunct law faculty from 1985-1996; teaching basic principles of constitutional law, evidence, and ethics in juvenile and family law
  • Co-authored the Children in Need of Services (CHINS) Deskbook on child abuse and neglect law, currently used by child protection attorneys of the Indiana Department of Child Services
  • Instructor in Child Abuse and Neglect litigation for state, regional and local Divisions of the Family and Social Services Administration, 1986-2005

COMMITTED TO MONROE COUNTY

  • Founded the Monroe County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) program that helps protect abused and neglected children, and facilitated 2005 CASA attorney training
  • Member of the First United Methodist Church, community Bible Study Fellowship, and the Hoosier Hills Emmaus Community
  • Member of the Bloomington Rotary Club
  • Member of Monroe County Bar Association and Indiana Bar Association
  • Member of the Board of Directors of the Monroe County Wrap Around Program to strengthen families and avoid out-of-home placements for delinquent or abused children
  • Member of the Board of Directors of the Asset Building Coalition (ABC) to prevent teen
    substance abuse through adult mentoring
